when working to a brief there are many different stages involved in order to complete the brief you have been set in the time given. to complete the brief you have been given you start off by planning what you are going to do, when you are going to do it and how you are going to do it, next you have to make the product for your client making sure you keep to the brief. finally you have to evaluate your product say how it turned out and what could be better.
when starting the process of working to a brief you will be given one brief out of five possible briefs. the first brief is informal and is where you talk to the client via a phonecall or an email. an example of this type of brief is where the person might be too busy too talk like if the client is a ceo then they might only be able to chat over the phone.
the second brief is formal where you speak to the client face to face this is for if the client wants to see you and discuss in person the actual brief. we have actually had a formal brief when we went to the tees barrage and spoke to him about the brief which is to create an advert for the tees barrage international white water rafting center.
the third brief is a negotiated brief which is where you negotiate with the client so that the requirements can be met. this can be used to negotiate how the brief will be completed the only thing is that both parties will have different ideas about how it should be done but they negotiate to try and make the product. an example is if you are working in advertising and you are making an advert for a company then you may have to negotiate because you may not be able to do the advert how they want it but can do it another way which they are happy with.
the fourth brief is a contractual brief where the brief is outlined in a contract and you have to not break any part of the contract otherwise if you break the contract then.
the fifth brief is a tender that is sent to several companies and you can put down your ideas to try and work for the client.
once you have been given the brief you will have to read the brief thoroughly and find out what you have to do, how long you have to do it and what software you need to use. if you neeed to make notes on your brief to help you and underline any key words. once you have read the brief you can then plan what you are going to for the brief. you can do this by writing out a schedule of what you have to do and when you are going to do it. once you have worked out what you are going to do then you will have to start doing preparation work for your work. to prepare for your work you have to produce several documents such as mind maps, moodboards, ideas and research. once ready you can create your product for your client depending on what you are making. sometimes when you are working to a brief you will need a production diary which says how you made product. next you will have to test your product to make sure it works and then you will have to evaluate your work explaining how the product turned out and if there is anything you would do differently. finally you will have to send the finished product off to your client and then they will check it over and tell you if it is ok or if there is a problem with it. if there is a problem then you may be given the product back to fix to make it work. if it does work you will be given a call or an email from your client saying if they liked what you have done and to probably say thank you.
